BOQ Specialist and ADA NSW announce 2021 grant recipients

Sydney, 24 November 2021

The recipients of the prestigious 2021 Australian Dental Association New South Wales (ADA NSW) and BOQ Specialist Recent Graduate Grant, which supports the professional development of young dentists, have been revealed.

Dr Rina Chrun has been awarded the top prize of a $5000 grant to support her professional development through the ADA NSW Centre for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), with Dr Rand Al-Raees receiving the second prize of a $2500 grant.

Based at ADA NSW’s world-class training facility  at St Leonards on Sydney’s North Shore, ADA NSW CPD is the leading provider of professional development for dentists and their practice teams in Australia.

A 2018 University of Melbourne graduate who currently works at a practice in north-west Sydney, Dr Chrun was awarded the top prize in recognition of her outstanding  participation in  CPD education  and commitment to her future professional development.

Originally from Iraq and currently working at western Sydney practice, Dr Al-Raees also demonstrated an extensive commitment to her professional development in order  to develop further skills and knowledge for the benefit of patients.

“Both Dr Chrun and Dr Al-Raees impressed us with their desire to further improve their already considerable knowledge base,” ADA NSW President Dr Michael Jonas said. “They will clearly both be a huge asset to our profession as their skills further develop and I wish them both every success for the future.

“ADA NSW’s Centre for Professional Development’s  expert personnel and commitment to quality contribute to its reputation as the number one dental CPD education provider in the country. It is a huge part of ADA NSW’s aim of helping all dental practitioners be the best they can be in a country with world-leading oral health.

“BOQ Specialist has been a greatly appreciated partner of ADA NSW. We are very grateful for their support of the Recent Graduate Grant and look forward to working further with them over the coming years.”

BOQ Specialist CEO Keith Strachan said: “We are proud to partner once again with the ADA NSW to support the next generation of dentists and to recognise two outstanding recipients in Dr Chrun and Dr Al-Raees.

“Despite the challenges faced as recent graduates, Dr Chrun and Dr Al-Raees have remained committed to their professional development to ensure they deliver the highest quality of care to their patients. Their passion for the dental profession and the communities which they serve is admirable, and a great example to other young dentists,” said Mr Strachan.

Launched in 2018, the Recent Graduate Grant recognises the commitment of early career dentists to high-quality ongoing learning and professional development. Applications are assessed by a Grant panel comprising the ADA NSW President, Vice-President and CEO.

This is the second year two prizes have been awarded to successful recipients and this year’s Grant was open to ADA NSW recent graduate members who completed their studies between 2014 and 2020.
