Sunjuri Sun, one of our 2017 FutureFocus grant recipients, undertook her overseas placement in January 2018 at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her placement involved partaking in a variety of hospital activities, such as outpatient clinics and the operating theatre, as well as participating in a surgical outreach camp that provided free cataract surgeries to remote Nepali communities.

Masoud ‘Mass’ Nasir was one of the five recipients of our FutureFocus grant for 2017 and a final year dental student from James Cook University at the time. Mass received $2 500 to put towards his voluntary overseas placement, which he undertook in Latouka, Fiji late last year. His placement involved working with local health teams to provide oral health services to underprivileged communities as well as implementing an oral health promotion program for schools in the region.

Flinders University medical student, Diana Hancock, was one of the five recipients of our FutureFocus grant for 2017. In December 2017, Diana travelled to the western border of Uganda to Fort Portal, Kabarole District to do a voluntary placement at Maranatha Children's clinic. Maranatha Children’s clinic is a 35 bed paediatric in-patient clinic which also has a daily outpatient service for patients of all ages.
